Crossing The High Priestess

"Foolish maiden!" cried the High Priestess as the girl trembled on the cool flagstones.  "Our temple has been hidden from the outside world for millennia!  That has ensured our survival and allowed us to serve the great spirit Ousuellen in peace.  His demands are easily sated.  Only a sacrifice of virgin blood every year.  Yet you, you have ruined that!"

The girl tried to babble a reply but the Priestess cut her off with an angry hiss.  "You knew our laws.  No outsider is permitted within our lands.  Yet you brought that white-skinned adventurer here, guided him to our sanctuary and hid him in your hut from the rest of the sisterhood.  For what?  A few beautiful beads?  A promise to be taken away before the day of sacrifice to live with him in the outside world?  Foolish girl.  You were the chosen this year.  You were to be given to Ousuellen and be granted the sweetest gift he could bestow on a mere mortal.  Now you can never be given to him.  Instead of his gratitude and gifts you shall feel his power and wrath!"

The High Priestess raised her arms and began to chant.  Power swirled around the girl and lifted her off her feet.  The air crackled with energy and a sudden surge of electricity enveloped the maiden. 

Writhing in pain and screaming in agony she heard the booming, contemptuous laughter of Ousuellen fill the antechamber ...
